We grow flowers we use in our designs that also attract and nourish the bees, hummingbirds, butterflies, beneficial insects and other wildlife. We also source top quality floral ingredients from top quality Vancouver island growers. Working in a sustainable farm to table manner means our fresh bouquets and arrangements are only available from April to October, during flower season.

OUR FLOWER SEASON

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Working with local flowers allows us to not only leave a positive impact on our environment, but also create unique floral artistry that is elegant, heartfelt, romantic and full of movement using the freshest and most delicate ingredients we can source. Many ingredients do not ship well and most florists cannot afford the luxury of sourcing local flowers.

SEASONAL local flowers is the ULTIMATE LUXURY!

OUR FLOWER SEASON

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Life in the garden in March and April explodes in an abundance of shapes, perfumes, and colours. After a long winter, spring flowers are most welcome. Spring is a time of year when we often honour romantic commitments and celebrate love with flowers.

THE EARLY YEARS

THE BEGINNING

In early summer, we have biennials and perennials. Once July comes and the weather is consistently warmer, summer annuals start popping up and the garden looks very lush again until the end of the season.

OUR FLOWER SEASON

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Early autumn flowers are largely the same as late summer flowers. What is unique about this season is the subtle colour changes we see in the blooms whereas the colour changes in the foliage is much bolder. For example, the blueberry foliage turns bright red. In general, the garden is starting to look tired. It wants to rest and recharge, and we want to respect that natural rhythm and allow the garden to go to sleep.

Rich warm tones abound in the garden

WORKING WITH LOCAL FLOWERS

Our year growing & designing  with LOCAL FLOWERS looks something like this.

It's time to plan the season and how many seeds to start while sipping tea by the wood stove. Start and babysit 10's of thousands of flower seedlings for the months to come.

We are back to designing at full speed with gorgeous spring flowers! The garden is covered in blooms and we celebrate with the return of fresh flowers! We keep planting seedlings for warmer times.

January & February

March

June

We work in the garden, planting seedlings that will bloom in the summer. Fruit branches are flowering just in time for pollinators that are waking up. The first few spring flowers are starting to bloom.

Spring flowers are already starting to dwindle down as the temperatures rise. Bi-annuals come out for their brief season and we 'flip' our flower beds to plant heat lovers that will bloom later in the garden.

April & May

Summer flowers are  in bloom. Dahlias are more and more abundant and will keep giving until the first frost. We constantly deadhead old blooms to make room for the new. There are so many blooms to choose from.

Now is time to plant bulbs for next spring, dig all our dahlias to protect them from freezing and rotting in the rain if we haven't done so already towards end of October and catch our breath.

July & August

September & October

December

Many summer blooms keep on giving, yet start dwindling as dew and rains increase. We harvest seeds and plant spring flowers for next season. Our fresh flower season ends with the rains. We keep designing as long as flowers remain top quality.

We get ready for the Holiday season, offer wreath workshops looking for ingredients offered by wind storms. We finalize our plants and seeds orders for next year and do a last big cleanup before getting ready to start seedlings.
